Evening prayer

Day 19 · Light in the darkness

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

Psalms 97:10-12

10Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. 11Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. 12Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

The Word

Psalms 18:28
For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

Review of the day

Look back on your day with God, unhurried. What can you thank Him for? Is there something you did wrong that you want to place in His hands? What worries you about tomorrow? Tell Him in your own words.

Prayer

Light in the darkness

Lord, my light, when the lights go out, fear sometimes overwhelms me. The darkness makes everything seem bigger and more threatening. But you light my lamp and brighten my darkness. There is no corner of this room or of my life hidden from your eyes. You see what I cannot see. Take away my fear and give me the security of a child who knows his Father is near. If there is darkness inside me as well, light it up with your presence. I rest peacefully because you are the light of my night. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

For others

Think of someone who needs your prayer today and name them before God. You can write down your petitions in “My petitions”.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Blessing

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Rest in peace. God is watching over you.
