Evening prayer

Day 27 · Speak, I am listening

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

Psalms 85:8-11

8I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. 9Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. 10Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. 11Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

The Word

1 Samuel 3:9-10
9Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

Review of the day

Look back on your day with God, unhurried. What can you thank Him for? Is there something you did wrong that you want to place in His hands? What worries you about tomorrow? Tell Him in your own words.

Prayer

Speak, I am listening

Living God, at the end of this day I want to be silent so I can listen to you. I spent many hours hearing news, conversations and all kinds of noise, and I hardly made room for you. Like young Samuel on his bed, I say to you: speak, for your servant is listening. Speak to me through your word, through what I lived today, through the peace or the unrest in my heart. Give me attentive ears and a spirit ready to obey. If there is something you want to correct in me, show it to me. And may I get up tomorrow wanting to keep listening to your voice. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

For others

Think of someone who needs your prayer today and name them before God. You can write down your petitions in “My petitions”.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Blessing

2 Thessalonians 3:16

Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.

Rest in peace. God is watching over you.
