Under your shadow
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
Most High God, today I want to live under your shadow. Keep me as the apple of your eye and hide me under your wings, the safe place I can run to. Protect my body from accidents and illness, and my mind from fear. Guard my steps wherever I go and in every decision I make. When I feel vulnerable, remind me that I am in your hands. I don't ask you for a life without problems, but for your company in the midst of them. I trust in you, because you have never stopped being faithful. Cover me today with your care. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
Lord, your name is a strong tower, and we run to you to be safe. That is why I place my family in your hands. Protect each one: those who live with me and those who are far away. Watch over the children at school, the young people on their way and the elderly in their frailty. Keep our home from dangers, from conflict and from everything that would divide us. Give us peace when we are together and trust when we are apart. Build our family on your love. And may each of us know you and follow you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
Righteous God, there are people who speak badly of me. I hear unfair comments, rumors and criticism that hurt me and rob me of peace. You know the truth of my heart. Hide me in your presence and keep me from tongues that look for a fight. Protect my name, my work and my relationships from the harm false words can cause. Keep me also from responding with resentment or defending myself with the same harshness. If there is some truth in what they say, give me humility to admit it and change. The rest I leave in your hands, because you are my defense. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
Beloved Father, the day is over and I am getting ready to rest. I give you what I did and what was left undone. Watch over my home while I sleep, and over every person who lives in it. Keep us from all danger, from thieves, from fire and from every harm. Drive away the thoughts that trouble me and the nightmares. I lie down and sleep in peace, because you are the one who sustains me. If I wake up afraid in the early hours, remind me that you are still at my side and watching over me. Give me deep sleep and an awakening with new strength. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Holy God, you know my weaknesses better than anyone. You know when I am most vulnerable and what pulls me down. Protect me from the evil that comes from outside and from the evil that arises within me. Thank you that you are faithful and will not let the trial be greater than I can bear. When temptation comes, open my eyes to see the way out you have prepared, and give me strength to take it right away. Keep me away from occasions to fall. Surround me with people who encourage me to live with integrity. May your Spirit make me steadfast. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
Lord, my light and my salvation, all around me there is violence and insecurity, and sometimes I am afraid to go out on the street. I hear news that distresses me and I fear for my loved ones. You are the strength of my life. Protect us from those who want to do harm. Stop the hand of the violent and defend the defenseless. Give me prudence to take care of myself and courage not to live paralyzed by fear. Comfort those who have already suffered attacks. Bring justice and peace to our streets and to our country. Though war should rise against me, I want to keep trusting in you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
