Bible-based prayers for “Travel”, to read or listen to.

Before setting out on a trip

Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

Lord of my paths, I am about to set out on a trip and I put this journey in your hands. Like your people before they set out, I ask you for a safe road for me, for my companions and for everything I am carrying. Protect me from all harm and from dangers I cannot foresee. Give me calm in the face of delays and patience with the people I meet. Take care of those who stay at home while I am away. May this trip have a good purpose, and may I come back safe and sound. Thank you that you go with me everywhere. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Ezra 8:21

On the road

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Protecting God, before I start the engine I ask you to watch over this road trip. You promise to keep your own in all their ways. Give me attention, good reflexes and caution behind the wheel. Keep me from hurry, fatigue and distractions. Protect those who travel with me, and also the other drivers, pedestrians and road workers. If I need to stop and rest, let me do so without hesitation. Bring us safely to our destination. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Psalms 91:11

Before flying

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

Lord of heaven and earth, today I am flying, and even though I'll be far from the ground, I won't be far from you. You make the clouds your chariot and walk on the wings of the wind; up there too your hand guides me and holds me. Calm my nerves if I feel afraid. Give serenity and skill to the pilots, the crew and those who look after the planes from the ground. Protect all the passengers. Help me rest during the flight and arrive in peace. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Psalms 104:3

For someone traveling far away

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

Beloved Father, someone I love is traveling, far from home. Jacob asked you to keep him on his journey and bring him back in peace, and today I ask the same for this person. Keep them on the road and in every place they sleep. Give them health, good company and wisdom in their decisions. When they feel lonely, remind them that you are there. And give me peace so that I don't live in anxiety. Bring them back safely, in due time. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Genesis 28:20-21

A new city

And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

God of new beginnings, I have arrived in a new city and everything feels strange to me: the streets, the house, the people. I give you this new beginning. Help me find my way around, find what I need and make friends. Lead me to a church where I can grow. Teach me to seek the good of this city and to pray for it, because its peace will be my peace too. May this place become a true home for me. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Jeremiah 29:7

Back home

Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

Blessed are you, Father, for bringing me back home. You watched over me as I left and you have watched over me on my return. Thank you for every mile traveled, for the people I met and for what I learned. Thank you that my loved ones are well. Help me rest and get back into my routine patiently. May what I experienced on this trip make me more grateful and more attentive to others. Bless my going out and my coming in, today and always. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
