Day 24 · Calm in the storm

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

²⁸Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. ²⁹He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. ³⁰Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. ³¹Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

³⁸And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? ³⁹And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Prayer

Calm in the storm

Lord of the wind and the sea, today my life feels like a boat in the middle of a storm. The waves are strong and sometimes I feel like I'm sinking. Like the disciples, I ask you whether you don't care what is happening to me. But you slept peacefully because nothing was outside your control. With a single word you calmed the wind. Speak that word to my heart tonight as well. May my fears grow still and a great calm come. Help me sleep with trust, as you slept, knowing that you are in my boat. In your name, Lord Jesus. Amen.
