Evening prayer

Day 25 · Peaceful sleep

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

⁷The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. ⁸O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. ⁹O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.

The Word

Proverbs 3:24

When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Review of the day

Look back on your day with God, unhurried. What can you thank Him for? Is there something you did wrong that you want to place in His hands? What worries you about tomorrow? Tell Him in your own words.

Prayer

Peaceful sleep

Holy Father, I ask you for peaceful sleep tonight. Some nights I am woken by nightmares or by memories that come back uninvited. You promise that whoever walks in your wisdom can lie down without fear and have sweet sleep. Guard my mind while I sleep. Keep bad dreams and disturbing images far from me. If I wake up afraid, remind me right away that you are here. Heal the wounds behind those dreams, and if I need to talk about them with someone, give me the courage to do it. Fill my rest with your peace. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

For others

Think of someone who needs your prayer today and name them before God. You can write down your petitions in “My petitions”.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Blessing

Hebrews 13:20-21

Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Rest in peace. God is watching over you.
