Evening prayer

Day 29 · Peace as I turn out the light

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

³O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. ⁴Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God. ⁵Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

The Word

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Review of the day

Look back on your day with God, unhurried. What can you thank Him for? Is there something you did wrong that you want to place in His hands? What worries you about tomorrow? Tell Him in your own words.

Prayer

Peace as I turn out the light

Father, before I turn out the light I remember Jesus' promise to leave us his peace. Not the fragile peace that depends on everything going well, but a peace that comes from him. Tonight I need it. My heart is easily troubled and fear finds many open doors. I ask that this peace come into my room and into my thoughts. Let not my heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. When the light goes out, may your peace stay lit within me and keep me company until dawn. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Blessing

Numbers 6:24-26

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Rest in peace. God is watching over you.
