Healing for my body
Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.
God who heals, today I come to you with my tired body and with this illness that won't leave me in peace. You know me inside and out, and nothing I feel is foreign to you. Like the prophet, I say to you: heal me, and I shall be healed. I ask you to restore my health, if it is your will. Bless the treatments I receive and give me patience to follow them faithfully. While I wait, keep my spirits up and don't let fear rob me of hope. Whatever happens, I want to keep praising you, because you are my God. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
Father of mercies, I place before you this person I love who is sick today. It hurts me to see them suffer, and sometimes I don't know how to help. You promise to sustain those on their sickbed; sustain this person now, when their strength is small. Ease their pain, calm their nights and give them rest. If it is your will, restore their health. Guide those who care for them and give wisdom to every doctor. And teach me to stay by their side with patience, with kind words and with a love that does not grow tired. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God. My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
My God, tomorrow I go into the operating room and my heart is pounding. I am afraid of what I cannot control, but today I choose to say with the psalmist: my times are in your hand. I place in your hands my body, my life and the people waiting for me. Give steadiness and clarity to the surgeons, the anesthesiologists and the whole team. May every decision be the right one. Calm my breathing while I wait and give me peaceful sleep tonight. When I wake up, may the first thing I feel be your peace. Whatever happens, I know you will be with me. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Lord Jesus, this illness has been with me for a long time, and sometimes I run out of strength to keep fighting. There are good days and very hard days, and you know each one. I confess that I have often asked you to take it away, and I am still asking. But I also ask for what you gave Paul: your grace, sufficient for each day. May your power be shown in my weakness. Help me not to measure my worth by what I can do. Give me patience with my body, courage when the pain returns and people who understand me. Grant that, even so, I may live with meaning and with joy. Through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Good Father, I thank you for the people who devote their lives to caring for others. Like the Samaritan who stopped, bandaged the wounds and cared for the injured man, there are doctors, nurses and caregivers who draw near to other people's pain every day. Bless them. Give them wisdom to decide well, steady hands and a compassionate heart. When they are tired, renew their strength. When they witness suffering that is hard to forget, guard their minds and give them rest. Protect also those who care for a family member at home without anyone noticing. May they never lack help or recognition. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Eternal God, this hospital room feels cold and strange to me. I hear machines, footsteps and voices, and it is hard to rest. I miss my home and my loved ones. In the middle of all this you remind me not to be afraid, for you are with me. Thank you that I don't have to pretend to be strong; you are the one who holds me up. Be with me through every test, every wait for results and every long night. Give patience and kindness to those who care for me, and help me be kind to them. If there are other patients nearby, comfort them too. And grant me a little sleep and peace. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
