Evening prayer

Day 3 · Forgiven before I sleep

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

⁵I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. ⁶For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. ⁷Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

The Word

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Review of the day

Look back on your day with God, unhurried. What can you thank Him for? Is there something you did wrong that you want to place in His hands? What worries you about tomorrow? Tell Him in your own words.

Prayer

Forgiven before I sleep

Faithful Father, I don't want to fall asleep carrying what I did wrong today. I confess my sins to you: the words that hurt, the thoughts that do not please you, the good I could have done and didn't. I don't hide them or make them small. You promised to forgive whoever confesses, and I rest on that promise, not on my own merits. Thank you that Jesus paid for me on the cross. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness and give me a new heart for tomorrow. If I need to ask someone's forgiveness, give me the humility to do it soon. Tonight I rest forgiven and loved. Through Jesus Christ, my Lord. Amen.

For others

Think of someone who needs your prayer today and name them before God. You can write down your petitions in “My petitions”.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Blessing
