Evening prayer

Day 5 · No anger at nightfall

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

Psalms 4:5-7

5Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. 6There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. 7Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.

The Word

Ephesians 4:26
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

Review of the day

Look back on your day with God, unhurried. What can you thank Him for? Is there something you did wrong that you want to place in His hands? What worries you about tomorrow? Tell Him in your own words.

Prayer

No anger at nightfall

God of peace, today I got angry, and I can still feel that heat inside. You know the cause, and you know whether my anger was just or whether it came from my pride. Before this day ends, I give it to you. I don't want anger to rob me of sleep or turn into bitterness. Calm my thoughts and quiet the arguments I keep replaying in my mind. If I need to talk to someone, give me gentle words and the right moment. If I need to let it go, help me truly do so. May my bed be a place of peace and not of resentment. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

For others

Think of someone who needs your prayer today and name them before God. You can write down your petitions in “My petitions”.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Blessing

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

Rest in peace. God is watching over you.
