Evening prayer

Day 21 · Rest for the soul

Good evening. The day is ending. Breathe slowly, set aside what weighs on you and rest in God's presence.

Praise

Psalms 25:12-15

12What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. 13His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. 14The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. 15Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.

The Word

Matthew 11:28-29
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Review of the day

Look back on your day with God, unhurried. What can you thank Him for? Is there something you did wrong that you want to place in His hands? What worries you about tomorrow? Tell Him in your own words.

Prayer

Rest for the soul

Jesus, gentle and humble Teacher, I come to you at the end of the day weary and burdened. You invite the overwhelmed to come to you, and here I am. It isn't only my body that feels heavy; my soul feels heavy too, with responsibilities and with what others expect of me. I want to leave at your feet what isn't mine to carry. Teach me to take up your yoke, which is easy, and to learn from your gentleness. Give me the deep rest that sleep alone cannot give. May my soul find rest in you tonight and walk more lightly tomorrow. I ask this in your name. Amen.

For others

Think of someone who needs your prayer today and name them before God. You can write down your petitions in “My petitions”.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Blessing

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Rest in peace. God is watching over you.
